Tools. Time. Thag. Trouble.

I have described AR's as a manly confluence of Barbie® and Lego®.

I have the tools to build just about any combination.

I have the parts to make just about any combination.

I'd just have to take apart existing guns and swap parts around.

I am thinking about taking Sabrina's barrel and putting it on Kaylee.  This would make the XM177E3 I'd sort of imagined at the start.

The barrel from Kaylee would move to Sabrina.  If I steal Charlotte's upper, I can make Sabrina into an Air Force R654.

With Sabrina's upper on Charlotte I could remake her into a late M16A1.

This would also put all three of my 5.56 guns down until I could get to the range and zero.

Stop me.  Someone.  Anyone.

Or encourage me.  Your call.

Or provide me with your parts to assemble.

  1. Please tell me that your gun is named after the Firefly mechanic and not the murdered toddler...

  2. You didn't watch the propaganda film?

Yes, Kaylee is named for Kaywinnet Lee Frye.

I thought I'd mentioned and explained it in "This Is Kaylee". But I really didn't. She's the simple, plain girl that gets the job done that you love.

    1. AR names. Charlotte is named after the spider, because that AR marked my descent into the myriad webs of AR building. Sabrina and Tabitha are named after TV witches. Dottie is named because she's a life sucking bitch from which there is no escape.

Brunhilda was because she was ugly and functional. Also after Victor Von Frankenstein's wife because Brunhilda was a parts bin FrankenAR. This was also because it had been years since I'd read Frankenstein and forgot her name was Elizabeth.
Alice because my mom's name was Florence. Yes, it's an obscure connection. M16A2 clone.
Olga because she's gentle and easy, like a West German female masseuse. Also a heavy girl. HBAR AR-15 target gun.
Jasmine because she's sleek and exotic. DSA SA58 Standard FAL.
Vanessa because she's british; after Vanessa Redgrave. SMLE Mk III*.
Geraldine because she used to be Grampa's and that's Grandma's name. Remington 341.
      Catherine because she's great. M1903A3.
Rosie because she was made right at the end of WW2; after Rosie the Riveter. M1 Garand.
Urszula because that's the Polish spelling of a common Russian name and she was an uncommonly nice Mosin M44.
Svetlana because she's just the sweetest M-91/30. I should get her back from Marv.

I don't have all of them anymore.

  4. Thanks!

Don't fret that your collection is small. This was years of "one here, one there". I had two guns one day and then before I knew it I was buying a second damned safe. Then I was selling guns to pay bills and selling both safes... Then I had two guns.

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

AR's are insidious if you have tools to build them. You have _A_ part that's left over from a build. Those parts accumulate. Suddenly there's almost enough in the bin to build a whole gun. So you order a new lower... But there's a part left over...

  5. Sort of like me in the early aughts when I was upgrading my computer system (I worked in tech at the time). Pretty soon, I had replaced everything except the motherboard and case. I went "You know, I have almost another computer here," so I bought said motherboard and case, put the old computer back together, and gave it to my parents.

I'd totally own an AR if the parts weren't so ridiculously expensive. For the price of a lower I could a complete AK.
