Still Picking Up The Pieces After 100 Years.

Found at The Firearm Blog.

The Real "No-Go Zone" of France.

Blue: Area without damage.
Green: Least bit affected area.
Yellow: Area of damage.
Red: Area completely devastated or "red zone".

Uckfay.

The scale of WW1 still boggles the mind sometimes.

We're still finding stuff at Gettysburg and that was a mere three day battle.  Verdun was 100 times longer (and that's just the battle, not the entire time the area was contested.)

  1. if you are ambitious and interested, Michelin published a bunch of tour guides to the battlefields (just after WW1), with maps, pics and stuff. Very cool stuff, easy to find on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/VERDUN-THE-BATTLE-FIELDS-1914-1918-ARGONNE-METZ-MICHELIN-ILLUSTRATED-GUIDE-/221791654649?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33a3d012f9
