Conflicted

In High Tech: Pulp Guns Vol. 2, the official stats for .270 Winchester are:

7d pi; 900/3,600.

This compares to the official stats for .30-06 which are 7d+1 pi 1,100/4,500.

The Douglas Cole numbers come up:

7d+2 pi; 900/4,500.

Damage in GURPS is a penetration value based on kinetic energy, mass and bore size.

Then there's this ballistic table comparing Hornady SST bullets in the most common weights.

Looks like .270 should do better on range, not worse.

I'm not sure what to do.
