I Don't Wanna Jynx It

But...

I listed a couple of FAL parts I don't want on Gunbroker.

No reserve, with a buy it now about $15 below everyone else new MSRP and starting bid about half the buy it now.

They both sold for the buy it now price on the first day.

WTF?

I am not complaining, I am confused.

And I'm quite pleased.

  1. Had something like that happen to me once. I had a couple of Warhammer supplements I didn't really want (they were mainly for the miniatures game, and I don't play miniatures) so I listed them on Ebay. Before I got the second one listed, I had a buyer for the first one, and they both sold real fast. And I made a nice profit, too.

  2. Why are you surprised that something you posted for less than the competition has sold?

  3. I phrased that poorly.

$15 below NEW prices for my used parts.

    Example.

My Extreme Duty Scope Mount. MSRP $79.95. I started it at $35 with no reserve. Buy it now of $60. $20 off retail is a good deal.

But why not bid the $35 and wait it out? That's where I am confused.

  4. Because if you bid and wait to try to get a deal, you get sniped.

There's only one available (from this seller), and the odds for any individual bidder are against them winning it. If you want to get it for cheap, you have to be online to bid just before the auction ends, and hope no one else is. If you enter a high maximum bid, it's likely the auction will go up to just over that price (all you've really done is set a floor for the winning bidder).

If you click "Buy it Now" you get the product. And in this case, you get it for $20 below retail. If it's worth that to you, there's a lot of impetus to buy it now rather than bid and wait.
