Here's one for ya, when I rebuilt my big block I spent big money on an aluminum water pump, well as much aluminum as possible really, but anyway, I start the chevelle monthly in the winter, I bet you can see where this is going, yes, its leaking like a mother f......... Dang, another 250, down the drain..............;)
My dear departed '79 Camaro's water neck was like that every winter. Leaked like a sieve as soon as the thermostat opened and stayed that way until the elbow got hot. Lost about half a gallon a day. Finally had to get a 1/4" sheet of cork and carved out a thick gasket for it.
The Vette's my mom's parting gift to me. Her last words to me were, "don't squirrel it all away and never have any fun, you might die before you get a chance." So I ordered a new Corvette.
The Biscayne is my hot rod. The car that needs constant wrenching and attention.
Your mother was wise...... Well today I went to look around for a cast iron water pump, I figured $ 40 or $60, wrong, $96.00 plus tax, damn, and I'd be stupid to spend $ 100 + for something I'd be taking off in the middle of summer for a lighter unit. So I'll wait till I see a sale at Summit racing and spend the big bucks.........;(
