There was once a time when Scots were treated as if they were Irish. Americans couldn't tell the difference.
No matter how many fights they got into over the differences; people still treated them like they were Irish.
And since a Scottish brogue kinda does sound like a drunk Irish one...

Worse yet, my Wife spells her family name "Mc" rather than the traditional "Mac".
ReplyDeleteMy Daughter will have a Scottish middle name spelled "Mc".
Its also considered an accepted spelling because even the majority of the highland clansmen didn't know how to read and write, so they spelled it however whenever somebody called upon them to first write it down.
My family name was once MacTavish. Notice my nickname, assigned by my friends, is McThag? Sassinak conspiracy I tells ya!
