As awesome and futuristic as those look, that would be an absolute beast to make actually seal reliably. It is, at least, nicely compact, which is a bonus.
There are real world iris valves that seal beautifully. Up to 3m diameter for the opening and up to three atmospheres pressure. I encountered them a lot in bulk material handling as flow restrictors.

DeleteThe space problem would be vacuum welding of the plates as they slide over each other.
DeleteThe artwork clearly show the plate versions and not the fabric which would be better in vacuum, but not very good as a locking door.
