Unionized Federal workers feel that their wages should "catch up" with those of the private sector.
I wholeheartedly concur!
Except for them to make what the private sector makes, they have to take a pay cut.
But it's a sacrifice I am willing for them to make.
Hey, they should participate in those massive profits the post office is pulling in... Oh wait... Never mind!
ReplyDeleteI don't complain about the lack of profit from the USPS. Of the many and various things the government does, the postal service is one of the few that's specifically authorized in The Constitution.
ReplyDeleteUSPS shouldn't make a profit, but it would be nice if they didn't lose quite so much. I'm just saying that union workers may have had more of a point in asking for higher wages when they were working for companies that were extremely profitable... but less so when they are working for an organization which is losing massive amounts of money. Sometimes like in the case of the Baker's union that represented a lot of the former Hostess employees, they refused to consider a pay cut that might have saved a company that was cratering and instead basically forced the company from bankruptcy to dissolution. That seemed like a pyrrhic victory...
