The lower we ruined by over-drilling the rear pocket pilot hole might be salvageable.
There's enough thread left to hold a pistol grip, but no sure way to get the screw into the hole because it wants to skip out into the mistake.
But a stud threaded from the other end once we have the milling done should work, with a nut to secure the grip.

The "bubba" way to fix it would be to fill the overdrilled area with something, typically an epoxy like JB Weld. Any excess can be trimmed away and the screw hole could either be studded like you are suggesting or the epoxy could be drilled and then threaded. Anyway, may fortune be with you in your salvage operation.
