Believe me, I can sympathize. I remember when I had to calm my mother down after she'd got her third ticket in a year, knew she was going to lose her driver's license, and was screaming that she was going to kill herself. The cops wanted to institutionalize her, and if there'd been a judge on duty to sign paperwork, off she might have gone. Instead, I managed to talk everybody down and got the scene reasonably serene again.
