The Lovely Harvey's boss gave her a bottle of Johnny Walker Red Label, because he doesn't drink hard stuff and was thus passing a gift on.
I cannot recall, for the life of me, if I've ever had Red Label before.
For free, it's EPIC good.
For the MSRP of $20, it's not bad at all.
Clearly there's better out there. There is also much worse for far more money.
Johnny Walker Red Label is considered to be on about the same level as Dewar's White Label.
ReplyDeleteGarbage scotch IMHO, but drinkable, and the price is right.
ReplyDeleteFor the best bang for your buck in the realm of Scotch, the Speyburn 10 is really awesome.
Famous Grouse is my best bang for the buck choice by far.
DeleteBut to make a Saul Goodman (Rusty Nail) you gotta use Dewar's and Drambuie with a generous splash of lemon from one of the little plastic squeeze bottles.
DeleteChivas, Cutty Sark, J&B and Vat 69 are some of the other relatively drinkable blended scotches.
DeleteIt is almost a sin to waste a good single malt scotch on a Rob Roy or a Blood & Sand. If I believed in sin that is... or well, if I thought sin was a bad thing.
