Drove out to the Hell and Gone Pawn and Gun Shop.
I bought them out of .30-40.
One box.
I'm back-ordered for two boxes of the Hornady stuff at Midway too.
It occurs to me that I've an example of all the classic American thirty caliber rifle cartridges now.
.30-30, .30-40, .30-06, .300 Savage and 7.62x51mm.
It isn't nearly as commonly used as it was years ago---wear and tear have taken some Krags off to that great arsenal in the sky, and collector mania has made them valuable enough that people aren't as willing to take them shooting as they once were. I've thought about getting into reloading to keep myself in .30-40 and .45 Colt, among other things.
ReplyDelete.45 Colt is readily available down here. It's just not cheap.
DeleteI've noticed that availability varies a lot depending on where you are.
Collector mania strikes any gun if it gets old enough. Remember $70 Mosin 91/30's?
