CMP has priced the 1911 type pistols at fair market value in accordance with CMP's enabling legislation.With no less than three NICS checks to get your gun, and having to use a local FFL instead of my C&R, the juice just isn't worth the squeeze.
Service Grade $1050. Pistol may exhibit minor pitting and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition.
Field Grade $950. Pistol may exhibit minor rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips are complete with no cracks. Pistol is in issuable condition.
Rack Grade $850. Pistol will exhibit rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips may be incomplete and exhibit cracks. Pistol requires minor work to return to issuable condition.
Auction Grade (Sales will to be determined by auctioning the pistol). The condition of the auction pistol will be described when posted for auction. Note: If you have already purchased a 1911 from CMP you will not be allowed to purchase an auction 1911. If you purchase an auction 1911, your name will be pulled from the sequenced list. No repeat purchasers are allowed until all orders received have been filled.
The shipping cost is included in the price.
Never mind that it's a lottery. You send in your packet and you hope to be drawn if more applicants than guns sent theirs in too.
I am not sure if they're going to have separate lotteries for each grade or if they're going to call you up and say, "your number drew a Service Grade, got the money?"
With brand new Colt Series 70's running $870 MSRP and Springfield's MilSpec at $670... the cachet of "genuine Army issue" feels weak to me.
I agree - it seems like they are trying to find ways to NOT sell them...
ReplyDeleteFor that kind of cash (what they're asking for a "rack grade" 1911---I think they mean a 1911A1, but who but us pedants knows the difference?) I could probably get an equivalent pistol brand-new out of the box, particularly if I didn't insist on it being a Colt.
ReplyDeleteSomeone will pay that much, and someone else will pay the first someone even more. There's always a "greater fool".
ReplyDeleteHey Angus;
ReplyDeleteI suppose that I will buy a regular 1911 vs one from the CMP. I suppose for that price the CMP is asking, you can get a decent upper end .45
