"It doesn't get cold enough to freeze in Florida, I don't need to run antifreeze."
Antifreeze is also an anti-corrosive agent. That's the impeller from Marv's Frontier and that quote is from his step-brother who willed him the truck.
In case you were curious about what that impeller was supposed to look like.
I had a customer that bought an XJS (5.3 V12)that came from Florida. Had shiny new antifreeze... He had owned it a couple of months when it "blew" a head gasket. He decided to fix it. When I pulled the heads, the sheet steel, over a core of some sort, headgaskets were like lace. Almost all of the steel was gone leaving the unsupported wire sealing rings, one of which had failed. I wish I could find the pics.
ReplyDeleteSo... where did the fins end up? Did he find all 6?
ReplyDeleteThe coolant was a reddish brown. We presume that the fins were part of the coloration.
DeleteYup, that is correct, the rust particles make it reddish brown. They are also abrasive, speeding up the process of eating steel and sludging up radiators.
ReplyDeleteHe flushed the radiator as well. Test run across the bridge at 80 both ways didn't overheat at all!
