The dryer decided it doesn't need to make heat anymore.
I've fixed it like three times prior to this.
The element has the correct resistance, both thermal fuses have continuity, the thermostat is closed and has continuity. All the things with continuity have great zero resistance.
Something new to me has gone wrong this time and I'm sick of fixing on it.
Have you checked the exhaust pipe for lint accumulation?
ReplyDeleteIf it was lint it would start to heat up, then when either the thermostat or thermal fuse exceeded their limits, shut down the element.
DeleteAlso check that the door switch works. If the controller does not see that, it won't allow the signal to the relay that turns on the heating elements. Also, your heating element can show continuity cold but have a microscopic break that is intermittent. Lastly, the relay that turns on power to the heater coils can be bad, cheap replacement.
ReplyDeleteWe have tumble, so the door switch is working correctly.
DeleteIt's an old mechanical machine.
If you do have to bite the bucket and buy a new one, get a Speed Queen. They still make the analog knob version that works for 30 years or so. Not available at (b)Lowes or Home Despot, you'll have to go to an appliance store. And you'll end up paying less than one of those High Efficiency pieces of garbage the leftists are trying to foist off on us.
ReplyDeleteLuckily, we have a spare in the shed which worked when we put it into storage... Eyes crossed.
DeleteMost people cross their fingers. But you, Angus, have always had to be different...
DeleteBe sure to shake all the rodents and nesting out of that spare. Ask me how I know about this....the aroma is not pleasant.
