No matter what we do, about 4 billion years from now the earth will be completely destroyed. It will be the ultimate "global warming" as the Sun shifts to fusing Helium instead of Hydrogen and the corona of the Sun expands out to near Mars' orbit. If humans don't figure out a way off this rock before then, the species, and probably pretty much every other on Earth will be extinct.
