Has anyone else noticed how many dead links are in peoples sidebars?
Or the link no longer goes to the blog, or a blog at all?
This doesn't even account for the numerous, without explanation, links to abandoned blogs. They didn't even say, "goodbye, see you on Facebook," they just stop.
Yes, yes I have.
ReplyDeleteIt's something I try to keep on top of on my own blog, but am not perfect in doing so. My rule of thumb is: if it's been a year since you last posted, you go into "RIP".
There's one blog that I keep around because they went offline for legal reasons (and I hope they come back soon) and one that I thought was dead, kept around because the information on it was useful and I wanted it as a reference, and I recently discovered that the blog is back and the author is posting again. ("The Art of the Rifle")
But you've inspired me to make more of an effort to get mine cleaned up before my 10th blog anniversary this weekend.

Hey Angus;
ReplyDeleteI have had several people that were on my blogroll that got wiped in the "Digital Long Knives" a year ago when several "Conservative" bloggers got deplatformed. That could be the reason for some of the disappearance.
That's what happens when you publish stuff on your blog about how the Clintons operate...;)
ReplyDeleteMaybe some bloggers plan to return, and then never do? Could be an explanation for why no "good bye" final post. I keep some on my BR in the hopes they do come back, and a few that are basically, "in memoriam". But I do make an effort to check all them and make sure none lead to a dead site.
