Thanks for that link, it's a very interesting page. I had heard about Italy having the oldest population in Europe and more smokers than elsewhere, but not that they led Europe in deaths due to antibiotic resistance. That's quite a triple whammy to overcome!
Some Italian health authority (their version of the CDC?) said that there were only one or two deaths from the virus that were not in people with a variety of other conditions. IIRC, he said that the typical older patient that died had three different conditions that combined with the virus to be cause of death.
