One of the local pawn shops has a post-64 Winchester Model 70 in .270 Win.
I think it's an XTR Featherweight and I don't know off the top of my head how post 64 it is by looking at it.
It's at an attractive price that, with the roof, AC and torque tube... Just out of reach.
Dammit.
Adulting sucks!
I am seriously eyeing the gun cabinet and thinking, "how many Mosins does one need, anyway?"
You don't want to disappoint Jack O'Connor's spirit now, do you?
ReplyDeleteYeah! Don't need to pay that mortgage or student loan or...
DeleteThe XTRs were supposedly the rifles that reiceved extra attention.
ReplyDeleteAnd I've always maintained the belief that even a post 64 Model 70 is better than a 700.
And a man needs two Mosins. One to keep and one to use an absolute last ditch arm for a particularly disliked sibling or neighbor
That's a really nice rifle. I'd seriously think of weeding out some Mosins to get my mitts on that 70.
ReplyDeleteHow's the AC repair coming along?
AC repair is complete! Anaconda sold, many generous contributions from y'all readers and some change from the couch and we're stylin' at 74˚F.
DeleteI'm going to see if they will consider some cash and a Mosin for the Winnie.
Huzzah!
DeleteHope they dicker well with you over the Winnie. I really like the .270 as a cartridge. Light bullet and it's good for smallish things, heavy and good for biggish things.
I got suckered into buying a 770. Don't judge me, I walked into it open eyed. Shoulda just gone and bought me a 1917 or a SMLE, but nooooooo, hadda do the buyanewgun thingy. Dumbass I was.
But it shoots okay. The bargain-basement other-side-of-the-track version of the 700ish.
I've got a .270 already in the form of a Savage 110XP that came with a packaged Nikon 3-9 scope.
DeleteIt's a tack driver.
It was also very affordable even brand new.
Stab the "Godless 270 WCF" tag and you can read all about it and the decision process.
