I am writing an alternate history based on a world very similar to ours, but with common and openly practiced magic where the Indians escaped the reservations to an alternate dimension...
I am not writing a doctoral thesis on The American Indian in 1899.
That means there will be glaring errors in the history. Glaring errors in the culture. Glaring errors everywhere.
It's an alternate history with magic. Those aren't errors. Those are deliberately inadvertent changes!
I'm going to do my best not to introduce those errors, but I will not lose sleep if a miss some.
On the other hand, the sheer fact of the existence of Magic in all its forms and varieties will have changed the Wild Magic West enough that glaring errors are small potatoes.
ReplyDeleteIt's a parallel world with a break somewhere. Anyone who can't see that needs to get a life.
If you dig into GURPS: Infinite Worlds you'll find something called a "weird parallel".
DeleteThis is a world which is very similar to its parent world DESPITE a massive (literally should be a) world changing difference.
Like there being commonly available magic.
The parallel only ends when the Indians escape the reservations to Maka Tanka.
Funny how people can suspend reality when it comes to fictional works that are politically correct such as the recently popular comic/movie franchise based on an alternate reality of another continent. But give them something that doesn't exactly fit their narrative and... boom.
ReplyDeleteYeah, and those movies fucked up Wakanda and made them racist anti-colonialists when in the comic they were simply isolationists.
