Mere weeks after buying a Roku for The Lovely Harvey these are words of terror.
So I go into troubleshooting mode.
Router shows the red "no intertubes" light, but a white "wifi good to go" lights.
Resetting the router does not restore intertubes.
Check the switch in the garage.
It's on battery.
When that thing goes to battery you get 15 minutes of internet then it goes to phone only.
That's why I had the switch plugged into a UPS.
Which is stone dead.
SIGH.
Plugging the switch directly into the wall restores intertubes!
All hail THAG!
New UPS ordered.
All Hail!
ReplyDeleteFunny. Same exact comment fro my wife unit last week. My home office computer no longer sees the internet and now the computer won't turn on. Grumble, grumble, poke around under desk. All wires plugged into wall are live. All wires plugged into UPS are dead. Moves all stuff on UPS over to wall power, presto all is normal.
ReplyDeleteTakes UPS to shop and pulls the battery - reads 9.6V. Put it on a fast honking charger to goose it. Battery gets very warm but fails to go above 11 volts after an hour. Dead cell for sure and likely others are weak.
New battery (of course it is non standard 2 inch wide by standard length and height). Found a local battery specialist with one on shelf, 26 bucks out the door. Put it in and let it charge up for a couple of hours, all back to normal.
The battery is a lot cheaper than a new unit. You may want to check that and keep your old one as a backuo or put it on the TV circuit, all TV's nowadays are computers.
This unit was flaky when new, we're happy to be rid of it.
DeleteAh! And that's the rest of the story. RIP.
