I had the Wu Ping Cough last November.
I have not been sick since.
Not even under the new delta epidemic that "ravaged" Florida.
I'm not vaccinated for it either.
Go go natural immunity!
I notice that Florida just announced that between vaccinations and natural immunity we're nearing the magic 85% for herd immunity to be effective.
How's California or New Fucking York doing?
I know a lot of people won't understand it, but I've been trying to get the Wu Ping Cough. Natural immunity is best by far - every study has shown that.
ReplyDeleteI guess because I'm not very social and don't go crowded places regularly, I never encountered it. Plus, it's not as contagious as they originally said. I suppose it's possible I had something in the past that gave me crossover immunity to it.
Completely different for me.
DeleteI was the last customer out of my favorite bar/restaurant when they closed down. And the first one back in when they opened up.
My BIL and I would ride 2 hours one way to find a place to eat and drink when pockets started opening up. In a busy bar and or restaurant 2-3 times a week. Both unvaccinated not so much as a sniffle.
but uncle joe still requires you to get vaxxed, or else.
ReplyDeleteTalk to your physician before you do anything (vaccination, booster, or risking infectiuon). It is a complex game and some of the "odds" haven't been worked out. Have your Vitamin-D(3) levels checked. Reportedly, that Vitamin helps control inflammation and there are some reports that the Vitamin also messes with the viral machinery.
ReplyDeleteThe website "heyjackass.com" mostly tracks Chicago homicides but did a thing on deaths from Mao Tse Lung. 95+% of the dead had one or more "comorbidities", i.e. untreated medical problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, immune disfunction due to cancer or transplant, etc. Talk to your doc. If you don't have one, now is the time. Insurance makes that a painful process. My long time physician passed. The first alternative asked me not to come back. My current doc can be harsh but he talks. I can deal with that, I was married for many decades.
Note that comorbidities can also matter for booster shots. Talk to your doc.
The vaccines developed "Warp Speed" ain't bad for a first try. They were a "military" decision in reaction to an incoming, "horrible" disease. There are NO long term studies on these vaccines. You and your doc can evaluate your risk/benefit statistics.
Remember that "immunity" is relative. It isn't a magic spell or a super shield. "Comorbidities" are a big flaw in that shield. Talk to your doc.
Mutations are part of the game. Many virus diseases start out as "drop dead" dangerous but mutate to something milder, because the bad-ass virus dies with the victim. "Measles" was a killer when first described. I am old enough to remember "measles parties" where children intentionally got infected to get immunity. The vaccines seem to target the essential "infectuous spike", so mutations elsewhere probably don't matter too much. The "Flu" virus changes its entire outer "coat", year to year. Thus antibodies that you generated last year probably aren't worth much this year. If the "infectuous spike" of the Corona goes away, the virus will have no means to target humans. I read that there has been a "Sigma" version found some place in Europe that has minor mutations in the spike, but the vaccine still works on it. Talk to your doc to figure out your odds.
Age. For most vaccinations, us "Old Pharts" get a higher dose since our immune systems are getting old and are less responsive. My "Flu" shot was marked 2 or 3X. The "shingles" vaccination is in fact a "chicken pox" booster. Everyone gets the same Corona vaccination dose. That was probably good enough to save useful middle aged people. Older people and those with untreated comorbidities are at greater risk. Talk to your doc.

There is a "cute" trick in all of this. The Corona virus uses/targets the ACE2 enzyme/receptor which is involved in destroying the active form of Angiotensin which causes blood vessel constriction. The virus, and probably the vaccines, cause some inflammation which triggers blood clotting. The virus, and POSSIBLY the vaccines, block ACE2 that destroys Angiotensin that narrows blood vessels. Your plumber has probably charged you a lot to deal with solids (e.g. like blood clots) not flowing well through constricted pipes. Talk to your doc. Get comorbidities treated!
As for the media and other politicians, the louder they shout, the less they know. Talk to your doc! The Corona is not a deadly disease for most people. Children and the young don't die from it. Deaths are mostly in the elderly who are vulnerable to anything, especially if they have comorbidities. The old line used to be that "pneumonia is the old people's friend". Any lung mung lowers blood oxygen, that causes "tiredness", so the elderly doze off and die. Untreated COVID will do that to you. Getting comorbidities treated incleases the odds of survival at any age. Talk to your doc.
Sorry about the wall of text. This is some complicated.
1) "Co-morbidities" are not "untreated".
DeleteThey are simply other conditions someone already had, in this case, when they died from COVID pneumonia.
Most of them are well-treated, which is why they didn't kill you, and you can have them as chronic conditions for years to decades. How scrupulous you are in managing them has a lot to do with your life quality and life expectancy from that point onwards.
But having one or more gives your body less health and strength, let alone reserve ability, to fight off the extra burden that COVID-induced bilateral pneumonia brings.
If you're going to use the terminology, use it properly please.
2) Vaccinations are a universal dose for adults. They don't titrate them according to age, except from children to adults.
3) Children and the young die from Kung Flu just fine. Have already, and will continue to do so. Just at vastly reduced rates compared to the elderly. The difference between "don't" and "seldom" is the difference between "not pregnant" and "a little bit pregnant".
4) Untreated and treated COVID don't make you tired. They fill your lungs bilaterally with fluid, and you don't fall asleep. You gasp for every breath, drowning in your own bodily fluids, and when you literally haven't got the strength left to move air, you stop breathing, and then go into cardiac arrest as a result of pulmonary arrest. It is to going to sleep what waterboarding people with cinder block overshoes is to a bathroom shower.
5) 50% of all doctors graduated in the bottom half of their class. We still call them "doctors". Bear that well in mind before you "ask your doctor".
Whatever your day job is, I would gently suggest staying within that lane.
Reagan's comments about Democrats come to mind: "It isn't what they don't know that's the problem; it's what they "know" that just isn't so."
50% of all doctors graduated in the bottom half of their class. We still call them "doctors".
DeleteIn many cases, we call them "captain" which is the traditional recourse for the bottom of the class.
Most of the actual Covid-deaths could have been prevented by simple application of decent care during any time of the virus ramping up in the body. Keep the lungs open using albuterol. Use hydrocloroquin or ivermectin or heavy doses of D or, heck, just about any treatment would forestall the end-infections.
ReplyDeleteStudies even showed that smoking helped kill the Kung Flu, or slow its spread.
Herd immunity is impossible because of the vaccinations.
ReplyDeleteIOW, you'll never get there.
Not Florida, not anywhere.
Look at Israel: 80+% vaccinated, sky-high per capita infection and death rates.
If Fauc The Grouch is chasing a Herd Immunity Train at 5MPH, and the train is travelling away from him at 40MPH, how long until he catches it?"

ReplyDeleteTossing this out there for comment, seeing that Angus has had it and others possibly as well.
ReplyDeleteSince retiring in 2018 have had zero colds or anything else remotely so, until around mid 2020 when I got a raspy throat which morphed into raspy trachea, then vanished in 2 days. Fuigured WTH, just a cold trying to grab hold and failed.
This past Sunday, repeat of above only this time the throat went into code red, pain to swallow unless drinking copious amounts of vit c heated (hot Tang). Next day that diminished but it moved as before further down. Then did the usual develop into a dry cough with very little production, today is day 3, have been carrying mild fever of about 100 all 3 days, but overall symptoms diminishing.
So, is this a plain old head cold, or is it the Wu Ping crap? Mind in March 2021 I did go for the J&J which seemed to be the least invasive approach at the time. Blood cells look normal, other than increased joint pain after shot (which persists BTW but minor) no apparent effects. For age 69 probably nothing out of normal on the joints but did not have any such pain before the shot.
