When I set booby-traps like the ones shown in this article in my gaming, the players all decried it as unrealistic and unfair.
I will give them the unfair part.
Booby-traps are the very definition of unfair.
But they work...

Barely legible version here and hereIt's about a Yugoslavian booby-trap AK magazine. It's got a 35g TNT (GURPS 3d+1 [1d] cr ex) charge in it. There's five rounds of real ammo in the thing and if you remove them, it goes off.
It's weighted to feel like there's a full 30 rounds in there, including a cartridge base visible through the witness hole.
I guess you could spot it by removing one round and checking to see if that round in the witness hole moved.
