The Gorilla Glue is holding nicely, but I want a fall-back.
So I ordered a set of stocks for my P220 from Midway. They did not warn that there were differences under the back strap, but...
Fucking Germans!
My older gun has a metal tab holding the mainspring.
The wood is relieved to clear this tab.
The plastic "slim" grips are not.
The bottom screw hole is misaligned by half a hole because of the interference between the tab and the backstrap.
What the slim grips are expecting to see is this:
The hammer strut, spring and retainer are completely different in the newer guns than mine.
If those plastic parts are even a little thermal setting, suggest you dip the back lower ends in boiling water for about 10 minutes, then quickly dry off and put in place. Should deform just enough to allow installation. Of course if you can return for exchange of correct part, do so.
ReplyDeleteYou can't really tell from the photos but the metal tab would be through the plastic to get them to fit. Then the spring would be rubbing the inside.
DeleteNear as I can tell, now that I know the there's a difference, the only place with replacements are the expensive Hogue wood grips and even then you have to be careful to not get early production examples because they're not relieved for the tab.
If you can get a replacement tab or make one, you could move the spring inboard as much as possible and shave some off the outboard side to get your clearance. Just from looking at the picture, real life may be different.
ReplyDeletePS- the newer made parts look like they will fit your frame if the top of the strut fits your hammer.
ReplyDeleteHm, I seem to recall you were playing with a 3d printer a while back. How hard would it be to design in easy cad or some such then print your own?
