It is pretty incredible how long Linux can make old hardware last. And Ubuntu as far as Linux goes is considered fairly heavy weight. There are other distros including Ubuntu derivatives like Xubuntu which are even more lightweight and can run on even older hardware.

I guess it's time to install a Linux distribution on the 2014 vintage ThinkPad T440S. My son favors Mint on laptops and I've used Xubuntu for years
ReplyDeleteInteresting as I'm looking at the possibility of deploying Linux to a number of older Desktops and Laptops here when Win 10 goes end of life... Fun things you get to do as the CIO I suppose, I've been a "Windows Guy" for a long time with the ancient MCSE from the 90's getting me a leg up on my IT career, but being a very small University I am seeing "limited" options for these second and third line machines that we still need to run for Student workstations, etc... These days it is looking like this will be the way forward in a time of very limited budgets...
