My 2008 Corvette came with OnStar® standard.
Every GM car in the 2008 model year did.
It's mandatory on all GM cars to the present as well.
My 2012 Caprice?
No OnStar®!
It makes you wonder why.
Could it be that the data stream isn't very secure and it would allow people to track cop cars in real time?
I need to find out if Tahoe PPV have OnStar® now.
Am willing to bet not. Can't have that stuff interfering with comms or being tracked.
ReplyDeleteof course you have to pay for it but i seen the icon on the touch screen...panzer guy...
ReplyDeleteAlmost all in-car connectivity was based on the 3G network because it was the cheap option. 3G was recently shut down by the providers to allow capacity to be used for the new 5G networks. Almost all in-car functionality is caput due to this change. OnStar is most likely included in this. As a curmudgeon, and a automobile luddite, I find this hilarious.
ReplyDeleteIronically OnStar is one of the more adaptable systems since the cellular modem is a,plug in module, something they learned when analog cell service was shut down. Some systems need a,whole new main board to change from 3G to 4G instead of a new module
