I was experimenting with martini recipes last night. (1:4 is about right for me; dirty is better)
After the third one, I noticed I was pretty darned tipsy.
People my father's age did this for lunch as a normal part of doing business.
Holy shit!
They say you really don't know someone until you walk a mile in their shoes.
I am starting to think that you can't know someone until you drink like they drank at work...
I worked with a Russian in Poland who warned me about the business lunch in Eastern Europe. He said a lightweight drinker passes out in their soup. A real Russian passes out in their dessert. I remember liquid lunches on Friday's when I was young but those fellows in the old WARSAW Pact were professionals. I don't think much get's accomplished after 1200 hours.
ReplyDeletealcohol tolerance is a thing. After watching how much people drink on British TV I've concluded they are a nation of high functioning alcoholics
ReplyDeleteThe Japanese do a fair amount of drinking after work too. Work hard - play hard. Never made much sense to me, especially if getting busted for DUI was a possibility. Damn expensive that. A DUI can ruin a life, just over a night of fun.
