In GURPS on the critical hit table you roll 3d after getting a critical hit; which is making the roll by 10 or more or rolling a natural 3 or 4.
Results 3 and 18 do triple damage.
Results 5 and 16 do double damage.
Results 6 and 15 do maximum normal damage.
Any of these results explain Charlie Kirk's injuries and rapid death following the shot.
The problem is the critical hit itself.
It would mean that the shooter was aiming for the neck.
That doesn't taste right and that's why I didn't calculate the values.
Aiming for the skull or heart make more sense, especially if the shooter learned to shoot via hunting.
Is there anything for 'pure dumb luck' regarding critical hits?
ReplyDeleteIf he did not declare a hit location he would avoid a to-hit penalty on his shot. Then you trust in the random hit location table to put the bullet where you want it.
DeleteThe neck is 17-18 on the hit location table.
So a critical hit with a random location would get to the damage results above.
I generally don't allow someone who's getting the aim bonuses to use the random locations. They have to tell me what they're aiming at.
Maybe the shooter was aiming for the head, missed his roll by a little, and got to roll for luck.
ReplyDeleteThe shot works as a torso hit from missing the head/skull by one.
DeleteWhat doesn't work is the extra damage critical hit results because a critical hit will hit where the shooter is aiming at.
