Lakeland Police, "On top of the arrests [for street racing] and citations during the operation, detectives also recovered seven guns."
Good! The police should also sanction the officers whom lost those seven guns in the first place!
But that's not what they mean.
A more accurate way of saying it is, "detectives also confiscated seven guns." But for the reporter to take an extra paragraph explaining why doesn't fit with the narrative that any gun confiscation is a good thing that doesn't warrant explanation because it's such an "obvious" given.
The only other way "recovered" makes sense is if they found seven firearms which had been stolen. Hopefully that means seven guns which will shortly be returned to their rightful owners.
This is what passes for "modern journalism" today. We have learned from Justice Scalia on the obamacare ruling that "words no longer have meaning" in the context of law. In the context of "news", well *recovered* could mean confiscated, but methinks recovered means stolen.

We should pray for our enemies, Jesus tells us. God please convert these heathen commies, and soon, because it is a pretty fair bet that there ain't no heathen commies up in heaven, they are our enemies, and there is a shortage of good quality commie-killing ammo available at this time.

ReplyDelete--they'll be held as 'evidence' for a couple of years then either be sold as surplus (rare, but OK did that last year) or more likely destroyed.

Journalists, being leftists, believe that all guns rightfully belong to their god, the government. Hence when the police confiscate weapons they are "recovered."
