Another jingoistic moment.

The last six battleships made are still afloat and they are all American.

The oldest battleship still afloat is American.

We're not too bad at this.

  1. I also think the oldest metal cruiser is still barely afloat, which would be USS Olympia.

  2. Battleship Texas has a special place for my family. My uncle came back from Okinawa on that ship. I bet that was one of his most grateful sailings because I know he had no fun at all in Okinawa.

    1. Dohh... Again... the above comment was mine. I keep forgetting that blogspot has forgotten me and for some reason I need to enter my name every time...

  3. I am overjoyed to see the Texas on the way to conservation! Not surprising that the funds are available, and that social media is being used to get the word out.

    1. A lot of people here in Texas that I've been involved with through various groups including people from ARFCOM have helped raise money to save USS Texas. As I said, it has a special place for my family. We went to several fundtaisers for it and made donations ourselves. For a while it looked like all might be lost, but now there is reason for hope.

    2. When I was still flush from my inheritance, I donated a decent chunk to them. At the time it felt like I'd burned it for all the good it seemed to have done.
