About THAT Age

Because The Lovely Harvey is entering the post-menopause frisky stage and I have been afflicted with a common problem, I inquired as to the availability of little blue pills.

This triggered a, "let's make sure your heart is healthy enough to be frisky," set of tests.

EKG, then a 24 hour heart monitor, then a trip down to Bay Pines for an echo-cardiogram.

DUDE!

Makes one feel like the Grim Reaper is just the other side of the door.

Also in the visit was a cholesterol discussion.

One of the best ways to get my ratios right is to cut out fried foods.

Um...

Until I decided to follow this advice, I had no idea how much stuff was fried.

Holy snot!

I've been eating all wrong.

  1. I lowered mine from, in my doctor's words, "the worst I've ever seen" (nigh on 800) to the 150's by following a regime of a super concentrated oatmeal mix I found online (it's mixed with your favorite drink) , taking Red Yeast Rice, and eating a bowl of Cheerio's or oatmeal every day. I am in the 150 range today. Statin drugs were not the way for me. Personally, I believe Cholesterol is overrated. Ever notice the medical field/doctors keep moving the goal line? I recently read a study where guidelines are being moved towards "good fats" and that the USDA may have had it wrong since their inception. I eat/drink real butter, a daily bowl of ice cream or two, whole milk, cook using lard, I eat eggs almost daily, and stay busy. I also eat sensibly, take a multi-vitamin, and try to stay busy. Best of luck with all of your endeavors.

    1. I've got excellent good stuff and just a bit out of range bad stuff and a barely out of whack mix.

High cholesterol runs in the family and, so far, there's no single reason that takes the men in my family out.

I'm cutting fried foods mainly because I think that vegetable oils are causing a problem. I don't reflux if I use bacon grease, butter, olive oil or peanut oil. I get really bad if it's canola.

I don't wanna start on statins.
