The Florida Sheriff's Association owns the Florida Senate.
They don't like us unwashed citizens carrying guns, and therefore nothing ever comes to a vote.
The sheriff to the south says, "[I am a] staunch opponent of open carry. We don’t need open carry in Florida."
Yet he and his deputies open carry.
It's not open carry he opposes, it's US doing it.
Fuck you Bob.
Also, The Florida Sheriff's Association claims 73,566 members against 22,537,160 citizens.
0.327% of the population is dictating what the other 99.673% gets to do.
That smacks me wrong.
Our new senate president, Ben Albritton, says, "“Let me be clear about this: I’ve supported law enforcement my entire life. It’s the way I was raised. And I’ve been super consistent as a legislator to support law enforcement in Florida, and I encourage you to check that record. And I stand with them today in opposition. They oppose it. And I trust my law enforcement officials. And that’s where I stand.”
Fuck the voters as long as the Kings Men are happy.
I'm getting sick of this state of affairs.
Your local folks should talk to the NRA affiliates and other groups over here in Texas about what it took to finally get open carry here. It was a struggle. For many years we were way behind Florida on gun and knife rights but somehow in the last 10-15 years we've made a lot of progress. Maybe not as much progress as Iowa, which surprisingly went from typical highly gun unfriendly northern state to actually ahead of us on some things.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, we have the same problems as Florida sometimes as far as the leaders of the legislature being RINOs. I think part of where we've seen progress is that we've had a fairly gun friendly Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General. And the Atty Gen here in particular hasn't always been so cozy to the LEO orgs. They've tussled on some things which has led him to be less receptive to caving into them on everything.
Oh damn. Forgot to sign... -swj
ReplyDeleteEither you let honest citizens carry, or face the fact they outnumber the criminals, and if you attempt to remove their rights, you'll be tremendously outnumbered. That, and they may not be willing to help an officer in trouble.
ReplyDeleteI am beyond sick of how the candidates vying for state office all talk about how pro-2A they are in their ads and forget about it as soon as they win their race. In this case, I just believe that Albritton is bought off by the anti-gun people and it has nothing to do with the sheriffs - they're just a distraction. Or worse, the blue county sheriffs are all bought off by the anti-gun side, too.
ReplyDeleteToo many cops and cop-alikes forget that they are basically citizens with a specialized job. When they refer to us unwashed masses as "civilians," I want to ask "And when did your job become military, Herr Oberstgruppenfuhrer?"
