366.24

Did you know that every year the earth actually rotates 366.24 times?

"But there are only 365 days in a year!" I hear you object.

Both are true.

We lose a "day" each year to our rotation around the sun.

Neat, huh?

  1. So? Just add a leap year every 365 years and call it good.

  2. IIRC, the span is 365 1/4ish days, hence a Feb. 29th every fourth year.

Then again, I know a couple of people born on Feb. 29th, who look forward to getting Social Security checks before their 16th birthday.

    Time is a little weird.

    1. 365.24 days, 366.24 rotations. We don't see that extra "day" because we are also orbiting the sun.

  3. That +1 gets me every time I look at planetary gear systems, too.

    1. Planetaries are something I understand while I'm actually looking at them that I have to figure out from scratch every time I come back to them.

      It's a strange thing.
