The Fees Add Up

Watching "Becoming Led Zeppelin" and they flash some concert tickets on the screen.

In 1969 it cost $5 to a mainline band like Led Zeppelin.

That's $43.57 in today's money.

What's Ticketmaster want for Metallica tickets?

Surprisingly, $55 for the upper tiers.  $250 for the next level down.

That $5 ticket is a $250 ticket today.  The venue is still there!

  1. I remember buying a general admission ticket to see AC/DC at Vets in Des Moines in around 1984 and it was under $10. Opening act was Yngwie Malmsteen. My hearing hasn't been right since then. That was one of the first concerts I drove to myself that I remember buying the tickets for. Most of the shows I went to before that someone else bought a block of tickets and either they or their parents drove. I bought that ticket at the Younker's store in North Grand Mall. They were a ticket agent for JAM productions which was the main concert promoter in Iowa in those days. I don't remember there being anywhere else you could buy tickes than Younkers in a podunk town like Ames. And online wasn't a thing and you had to have a credit card to order by phone. Man those were the days. I remember going to see bands like Judas Priest, Metallica, etc. in the 1980s and the tickets were never over $20-$30 except for the big all day multi band shows like the Iowa Jam. Nowdays you might pay more than that to see a show in a club in Austin. Sometimes a lot more depending on who it is.
