Man arrested for bringing in some harmless R12.
We can stop him, but we can't stop the millions of illegals from elsewhere?

The R12 ban is a recurring sore spot for me.
We went from discovering the ozone hole, to deciding that HFC's caused it to banning HFC's with unseemly speed.
They don't know if the hole was there from before the common usage of refrigerants. Look it up. They don't know how long that hole had been there.
Then there's the problems of reproducing the ozone depleting catalytic reaction in anything approaching conditions found in the ozone layer.
Plus the highly suspicious "finding" that a heavier than air gas that readily breaks down in sunlight manages to get up there and stay up there where there's even more UV than where it might leak from your car.
That Ozone hole is still there, but they got what they wanted and don't need to bring it up anymore.

Back when we were keeping company, Angela Rolling (Crabtree, these days) was going on about this. She was also very skeptical about the CFC panic.
ReplyDeleteOnly reason the whole Montreal Protocol Ozone Depleting Substance BS ever went anywhere is that the big chemical companies weren't making any $$ on R-12 anymore and they wanted the government to mandate something different. R134a doesn't work nearly as well thermodynamically as R-12 and it sells for about 5x the price...follow the $$...

Funny how the R12 and R22 patents expire and all of a sudden the patent holders of the replacements lobby heavily for the generic products to be banned so they can collect monopoly profits. And now that the patent on R134 has expired they're lobbying to get it banned in favor of their next thing. And the libtards claim that the left isn't controlled by the likes of DuPont... They're just as guilty, they just lie about it more.
