All Things Great And Small

The big gun is a Springfield Armory GI Model M1911A1 in .45 ACP, thanks for loaning me the money Marv!

The little gun is a Colt Pocket Junior in .25 ACP. It was really made by Astra and the GCA 1968 ended production. This particular example was made in December 1968, just like me! So wee ha! The price was entirely too good to pass up. $150. Thanks Veteran's Administration! My limp bought a gun today.

A Thought On History

It just occurred to me that we are getting ready to really fuck up in Iraq (Thanks Senate).

Gee, what happened in Germany when the Army was "defeated" and they didn't FEEL defeated?

The feeling that among the troops was very much along the lines that they had been stabbed in the back by the politicians.

The troops coming home from Vietnam had a similar problem, but what kept it from turning to violence at home was the conscripts didn't ever believe that we should have been there. Even though they didn't feel defeated, they were happy just to be home.

The troops in Iraq now feel they need to be there and that they can win. If only we would let them. And if we pull them back before they win, we might just have a colonel or general remember the "and domestic" part of his service oath.

Scenes

"Easy, easy." The frigate slowly crept out from behind the rock that had been hiding us, the much larger cruiser had not seen us. Yet.

"Weapons! Fire as instructed!"
"Weapons away, running autistic." All sixteen missiles in the port launcher puffed gently away from our hull.

"Maneuvering, give me 20m NOW!" The main drive announced our presence as we accelerated to a bit more than two G. Tell-tales starting lighting on the damage board as the cruiser's lasers started cutting into the ablative foam over our all too thin armor.

The captain of the cruiser had obviously noticed that we were facing the opposite direction from his vector and we were going to be able to escape if he didn't maneuver. With his main drive dark and full streams from his maneuvering jets the big ship started to flip over end.

"Weapons, now!"
"Yessir!" A command is transmitted to the inert missiles. In a ripple, their motors light and they kamikaze into the side of the cruiser.
"No point defense fire, sir." Good, I think, they had their lasers columnated for shooting at us.

"Weapons, detonate and stand by, interceptor" I needn't have bothered, at least three of our weapons detonated from inside the enemy vessel, their small nuclear warheads ripping it almost in half. Normally concussion is not much of a factor, but with the ship's own atmosphere...

Two lessons; One, don't mess with the guy who builds your weapons, he knows more about what they can do than you do; Two never, ever get into a fight to the death with someone who's 135, if nothing else you know he's a survivor.

"Navigation, give us a plot to near Io, go light on the reaction mass. I'm going to my cabin for a bit, you have the con"
"Aye sir."

A Note To The Senate

We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I will say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: Victory — victory — at all costs, victory, in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.

-- W. Churchill, 1940.

OK I'm A Geek

I have converted the racial templates from GURPS Fantasy Folk and Aliens (no relation) from GURPS 3rd edition to 4th edition. In addition to that I also converted the hominids from Ice Age and Dinosaurs, plus I am almost done with the four GURPS: Traveller Alien Races books.

What a huge task.  The differences in the psionic rules alone are enough to give one hot flashes.

UPDATE! I have finished the GURPS: Traveller Alien Races books too!

I'd Say They Got The Glare About Right

And just so I'm not just picking on the Dems. The troops want the gloves off to do their jobs, not even the Republicans are willing to let that happen. So, both parties don't seem to want a win.

I Just Don't Get It

Two gun shops/ranges in the Tampa/St Pete area have notices on the door that only active law enforcement personnel may carry on the premises.

Hey, dumbass, you don't trust me with a loaded gun, but you sell guns, ammunition and have a range on site?

Is it because I have a CONCEALED gun? Again, dumbass, people who get carry permits are statistically the most law abiding of a very law abiding group. That would be gun owners, the people who pay your bills by buying guns and ammunition and renting time on your range.

I have a simple solution, since there are shops that have more for sale who don't give two shits about whether I carry or not, I will patronize them. I'll pay their bills, they welcome me.
