Increase While Decreasing

Smith and Wesson is, apparently, giving away some 3rd Gen pistols.

If you click this cunningly crafted link, and enter yourself into the sweepstakes, I get 15 additional entries and, thus, increase my chance of winning slightly.

Giving me more entries than you reduces your chance of winning, but you're here to help, right?

PS: It could be an April Fools prank, but they already have my contact information from doing a warranty return, so...

Got My Check

To all the people who are staring down no SNAP check tomorrow...

My VA disability check got deposited.

I am fascinated that the VA is funded until end of Fiscal 2026 but not welfare.

Almost as if someone WANTED to use the disruption in benefits to children and single moms a wedge issue; but knew that veterans would just stoically endure any shut-down while also burning congressional careers to the ground.

SNAP beneficiaries have no political power because they are pawns to the system.

Seeing this coming, we donated a couple flats of chicken-noodle soup to the local food bank.

It's not much, but more than a lot of people give.

I'm not uncharitable, I just object to how the government runs charity.

If I had my way WIC and SNAP would only buy ingredients.

Do not fucking try and tell me that these people don't have time to turn ingredients into food.

I strongly object to potato chips and soda being allowed for purchase.

I really fly into a rage when I see some of these people smoking.  I know what cigarettes cost, and if they can afford Marlboro Lights, they can afford a lot of food.  If you're choosing to spend that money on cigarettes, you're not that hungry, are you?

In too many cases our generous, government funded, charity is simply being used to allow people to indulge in their vices because their necessities are being covered by the rest of us.

Churches would impose rules on who can receive benefits that the government cannot.

Sense Of Entitlement

Something that finally clicked about something...

The disconnect that considers veteran's benefits as no different from welfare entitlements (hint they are both entitlement programs) is the same disconnect as the difference between a wall running the entire inter-German border and a wall between the US and Mexico.

Why.

The wall in Germany was to keep people IN.  The wall on the southern border is to keep people OUT.

Veterans are one of the very few groups that gave something to get their benefits rather than failing to launch.  The promised benefits are an enticement to get young people to sign up; part of the deal.  They are, on the whole, none too generous either.

I am at a loss to see what so many people living on welfare have given to the nation and thus, fail to see what it owes them.

I'm compassionate, I'd support some programs, but many fewer than what we have running today.  I'd put more conditions and restrictions on the recipients than now as well.

What worries me most about thinking of Welfare and VA Bennies as one and the same is the tendency to cut them together when government starts talking about being efficient and cutting costs.

Shitting on veterans is traditional in DC, after all.

Off To The Races

Marv and I are meeting our buddy, Adam, in Daytona.

Going to get two laps of the track at a pace-car governed 55 miles per hour.

It's silly fun, but it's for charity.

Going to pay them for another professional picture of The Beast on the track too.

A Bit Rich

The chili cook off yesterday was in support of a charity called Warrior Wellness.

They've got a sporting clays shoot coming mid-November and, while I'd like to waste some ammo, I don't have the $150 a head to sign up.

I notice the venue and it rang a bell.

There are other charity shoots at this venue and they all have the same sort of sign-up fee.

It makes me wonder if the venue is siphoning up a large chunk of the entry fee.

I was about to ask people to hit the tip-jar to help Harvey and I enter... then remembered there's no Paypal link anymore.

This sucks.

If you see a "Buy Me A Coffee" link over there (or if that part in quotes changes to a link) then you'll know I figured it out and am taking donations.

$300 and Harvey and I go.

$450 we add Marv.

$600 we add... JT?  Willard?  We're short on shooters here.  Maybe Bubba!

I'm Rich

Way back in 2018 Vickers Guy sent me a gift of East German 5.45x39mm magazines.

For free!

They are now running $80 each.

Unglaublich!

Once again, THANKS!

Walk-A-Thon For Special Olympics And The Boy

The Lovely Harvey and The Boy are doing a walk for Special Olympics and you can help!

Just click on this finely crafted link and make a donation!

She set the goal at a modest $50, but I'm willing to bet that my generous readers will top that easily.

Because you rock!

Have You Ever Seen One Of These

The Boy managed to break The Lovely Harvey's adorable little organizer.

It's originally from Big Lots, here's their archive link to the item.

If you know where we can find a replacement, I'd really appreciate your sharing it.

It's just nearly the ideal storage item for what Harvey was using it for and it appears to be a unique solution too.

Thanks in advance!

Paid Forward

Last night The Lovely Harvey decided that she needed 1/4 Pounder.

Because the traditional dinner of Chinese food had dissipated from our gullets already, we headed out to the Golden Arches.

Things went smoothly until we tried to pay.

The car in front of us had paid our bill!

That was nice of them.

So I tossed the $20 I was going to use to pay for food into the Ronald McDonald House donation box instead.

Lend A Helping Hand

Mike from Cold Fury over there on the sidebar is laid up and getting bits sawn off to get ahead of the infection.

That's bad.

Big County Expat has the skinny on how to donate to the cause.

I've been reading Mike almost since I got the intertubes plumbed into the house.

Help if you can!

Link to the Go-Fund-Mike page.

Perhaps Funded By Readers Like You?

Florida weather is rapidly approaching the day where it's comfortable to wear enough clothes to hide a full sized pistol.

Because I'm on an old gun kick, I am thinking about trying to tote the S&W 59 for the duration of the cool weather.

My preferred holster is a Galco Miami Classic or Classic II under a bowling/flannel/hawaiian shirt.

Galco no longer makes this model for the 59, but you can find them readily on Ebay.

$80 to $100.

If you'd like to read about toting a Miami-Vice era gun in Florida winter, tag the donation link and I'll get the holster.

Pet Emergency

In happier times!

The Bear, our lovely black kitty has come down with a urinary blockage.

Tonight's bill is $1,500.  That gets him to the point of taking him to our normal vet at 0745 Tuesday morning.

No idea how much the regular vet is going to ask to finish what the emergency vet started, so we'd really appreciate it if y'all would hit that donation button over there on the right.

Update: The Bear has been moved from the emergency care clinic to our more normal vet.  His bloody urine cleared up faster than feared, so he might be going forward on special food and be fine.  Apparently the blockage was from a protein accumulation, which from what the intertubes say, is the easiest urinary thing to deal with in a cat.

Canonical

The Lovely Harvey was just saying the other day that she had just started getting into photography when The Boy came along and everything became work all the time.

Her mom shares a similar story with film photography.

FuzzyGeff conspired to get Harvey a Canon EOS M3!

M3 with 18-55mm on the left, M50 with 15-45mm on the right.

I chipped in for the 18-55mm lens.

She's going to want a zoom before too long, but she's already been playing with it and making happy noises.

Happy Dance!™

Crazy Cat People

If the cat population in a house exceeds the human population, you are crazy cat people.

Bear, Dingus, and Max have been joined by Mara.

She's been wandering around the neighborhood for a couple of days.  Sunday she walked right up to Harvey at the inlaws.  Yesterday she was tentatively trying to approach us, so we gave her some Temptations cat treats and set out some food and water.

I admonished Harvey that we didn't need another cat.  I held firm.

Tonight I checked to see if she'd eaten any of the food, she'd eaten all of it.

While I was checking she trotted right up to me and demanded to be picked up.

I did.  I'm a big softie.

Now we have four cats and three people here.

"Grandma" Kiko always said having a three color cat was good luck.

Taking Up A Collection

Mr Willard has slipped and fallen and broke his leg.

I'm pretty certain he's got either limited or no insurance to pay for this.

If you hit the tip jar I will see it on to him.

We'd prefer he'd not have to sell off the gun collection (again) to pay for this because one always loses one shirt selling in a hurry.

Willard Update

He's no longer in the hospital!

Sadly, he's not home yet either.

He's at an in-patient physical therapy center learning to deal with using a metal bar for a structural member rather than a femur.

Dunno how long he's going to be in there, and it's especially galling that we cannot visit him to give him shit while he cannot escape wish him a speedy recovery.

Fingers crossed, and thanks for the donations!

THANKS!

We're not all the way there yet, but THANKS! To those who've contributed to getting the HVAC under control here at Casa McThag.

Also thanks to LEBill49901 of Idaho who donated a Cold Steel 1860 Saber to my cause!

I am continuously humbled by your generosity when things get upside down here.

It's still OK to hit the donate button!

Chicken Bone Chicken Bone Lucky Lucky Chicken Bone

Made my charity raffle donation to win two Corvettes again this year.

With as much expectation of winning as I do of waking up to a supermodel performing wild fellatio on me.

Still, it's to a good cause.

Fingers crossed.

Rack Ordered

Thanks to Alpha!

The rack to haul the trike is ordered!

I'm still constantly overwhelmed by the kindness of my readers who drop some of their hard earned money to help out me and my family!

If you're ever in Tampa, beer's on me!
