I Thought I'd Gotten Rid Of All Of It

It's been almost 10 years since I gave up on the shit.

Yet I had a small bottle in my range bag.

The mint scent is long gone and the "I'm vegetable oil!" scent is prominent.  Pretty rancid vegetable oil now.

Every place where air could get at it was brown and very sticky.

I dumped it out, cleaned the bottle and have Klenzoil in there now.

Clenzoil reminds me of something...

I can't place where I've smelled something like it before.

I want to say it's something I've smelled around aviation museums, but I'm not sure.

Any of y'all aviation types recognize it?

C Is For Cleaner

Clenzoil has cleaned an M16A1 clone that had 80 blanks through it in July.

It has cleaned an M&P 9 with about 500 rounds through it.

The C part of its CLP powers is confirmed.

I figured out why I think it cleans wrong.  It's an oil.  It's supposed to linger.  Solvents mostly evaporate so, you don't have to clean them off for the most part.

Thus far, I am OK with the cleansing abilities of Clenzoil.  But I was happy in much the same manner with Froglube at this stage of trying it out too.

I am not sure I like how it cleans though.

Shooter's Choice and Hoppe's seem to carry more gunk away with the liquid.  Clenzoil leaves moist carbon that's easily wiped off.

I feel like I am using more cloth to get the same gunk removed.

The aroma reminds me of a fresh opened tin of band-aids.

It's green.  Not GREEN, but green colored.

It appears to do the C part that a CLP should do.

FrogLube® did too.  Where it failed L is when you got too much on and left it, it turned into a tacky-sticky coating.  Rumor has it that FrogLube® is tarted up coconut oil, and its behavior is consistent with what other vegetable oils do when they oxidize.  I found no corrosion under that sticky brown coating, so it passes the P portion.  I'll call that a partial fail on the C portion too because sometimes you need to flush out a spring pocket or under a pawl or lever.  If you can't wipe it nearly off, you get the gummy brown gunk and you're learning how to detail strip the gun to get under those parts now.

Finished With Frog Lube.

I used FrogLube to clean up my N Pieper model 1909 when I got it last year in June.

I took it out yesterday when I was rearranging the shelf in the gun cabinet to make room for the Raven 25.  With the AD fresh in my mind I pulled back on the slide to check the chamber and it didn't want to move.

It took a LOT of effort to open the slide and get the magazine to drop.

So I took it apart to see if I could figure out why.

FrogLube.

Froglube turns into molasses if you let it sit on the gun.  The little Pieper was near locked up solid from it.

A little Shooter's Choice solvent and a bit of LSA to grease it up and everything is working correctly again.

You don't know if something works until someone tries it, that's why I bought the FrogLube in the first place.  Short term, it seems to work great.  Long term it's no longer an L, but the P seems to work.
