The Carolina Hurricanes have won The Stanley Cup!
Bully for them!
I'm kind of the thinking that if the local team can't win, then at least the conference we're from should win.
The 'Canes are also the Eastern Conference Champs.
Now the interminable wait for next season.
The mouth breathing morons were standing in rapt attention watching the National Felon League select their newest players this evening.
That this "needed" to be televised is extremely confusing to me.
Hockey manages to have a draft every year and you can read about it on the NHL web page if you care, without forcing anyone who doesn't to endure it.
Hockey is so much better than Football in so many ways.
By the way, the NHL is currently running their playoffs, it's more important than who might be playing football months from now and I am getting sick of the NFL stepping on other sports.
The local Hockey team, The Lightning, made it to the playoffs and clinched their position a while ago.
Their last game was embarrassing.
All year they've been having trouble beating teams in the cellar.
The go into the playoffs against a team that they've been having trouble beating since everyone came back from the Olympics.
Even if they defeat the Canadiens, they will go on to face the Buffalo Sabers because Boston is only there on a fluke wildcard.
They have been utterly unable to beat them all season.
Out in round 2, at best, I think.
Damn, that was a Hell of a game!
Glad I managed to avoid seeing who'd won before I watched the rebroadcast.

Happy hockey dance!
Team USA and Team Canada will be playing for the gold medal in men's hockey this morning at 0800EST.
I will not be getting up to watch it.
I don't get over the air NBC and I'm not paying for the Peacock channel.
USA, which we do get, is rebroadcasting the game at 1630.
I will have my head buried in the sand until then so the outcome of the game isn't spoiled.
We are somewhat conflicted about whom to root for.
Team Canada is being coached by the coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Team USA is the HOME TEAM.
We like coach Cooper a lot, but...
I think we will be rooting for USA.
It's gonna be very cold for Florida tonight.
The only TV that has an antenna that gets the station playing the hockey game is on the back porch.
We're gonna be sitting back there, bundled up, watching.
It'll be like going to a live game up north!
The Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning are bitter rivals.
The Panthers are also what is known as a dirty team and The Lightning are generally regarded as one of the cleaner teams (no not cleanest by a long stretch.)
They played each other in two back to back pre-season games and managed to rack up almost seven hours of penalty minutes in two hours of play time.
In case you don't know hockey, most penalties are two minutes long. Some are longer.
But this was in the neighborhood of 200 penalties in two games, with 3/4 of them in the second game. At times there were more players in the penalty box than on the bench OR the ice.
That they were called relatively evenly makes me think a change in officiating has taken place since last season where The Panthers could commit offenses with, seeming, impunity. I also think that the Lightning coaches said, "fuck it, hurt 'em, we're going to get penalized like a motherfucker anyway, so let's fuck Mom!"
I hope that it's a real change in officiating.
If you're going to call it, call it. If you're going to ignore it, ignore it. But don't let one team get away with it while being all Karen on the other.
It's no secret that I'm a Hockey fan.
The local team is having a bad couple games.
This had led to cries for the coach and goalie to be fired by people that I don't consider fans.
Players have bad days.
Coaches have bad days.
Teams have bad runs.
It's the nature of sports.
If the hometown team didn't make it, we're willing to accept the other team in the state did.
Congratulations to the Florida Panthers and winning their very first Stanley Cup!
Rooting for the natural rivals to the hometown team is hard for lots of people.
Especially with uneven officiating and the Panthers being a rather dirty team using that lopsided application of the rules to eliminate the hometown team.
Still...
It wasn't the fucking Stars. I ain't got a lot of forgiveness for how that team came about.
And neither team is mine...
The Florida Panthers have gone from a 3-0 lead in the series to a 3-3 tie that will get settled on Monday night.
The Edmonton Oilers have done themselves well recovering from that deficit.
It's odd that I'm cheering the Panthers on when I'm a Lightning fan...
My inlaws celebrated 50 years of togetherness yesterday.
That makes for a slow-blog day.
We ate like pigs!
Then off to have St Paddy's Day green beer and Irishish food.
Plus watching the local hockey team win against the other Florida team when they were definitely the underdog in the matchup. Go Bolts!

Tonight was the season opener for the Tampa Lightning.
They won!
Harvey and I watched the next game in the queue and then she turned in.
I'm posting to my blog rather than watch the Kraken and Knights go at it.
The Las Vegas Knights are the 2023 Stanley Cup Champs.
They do have some solid talent on the team and I don't want to take anything away from that.
BUT!
The Panthers were beat to shit and just didn't put up a real fight.
The biggest but, though, was the horrendous refereeing.
Far too many penalties by the Knights were flat ignored.
It's a tainted win because of it, and I believe that they would probably have won without the bad officiating.
The Lovely Harvey asserts that The Panthers would have won it easily had they employed the unstoppable "Flying-V!"
This did not post on time, so I back dated it!
Tonight is consumed watching the only form of Sportsball that I even give half a fuck about.
Hockey.
The home team was eliminated Thursday.
But not all is lost!
Florida has TWO hockey teams!
Thankfully, the Panthers were able to knock Boston out in game seven! In overtime no less.
Since I'm backdating this, the Seattle Kraken were able to knock the defending Stanley Cup champs, The Colorado Avalanche, out as well. Also in game seven.
The Home Team, The Bolts, have just won the second round of the playoffs.
The Lovely Harvey has tasked herself with learning Hockey so as to have something to do with me!
She's a quick study and is yelling obscenities with the best of them now!
