There's a thread on arfcom that's, no shit, debating which flip-up back-up-iron-sight is best.
Optics have gotten to the point that back-up irons are nugatory.
And I say that as a GM who really WANTS to fuck over a player counting on that optic!
We're to the point where the best BUIS is the one that weighs the least and takes up the least space.
All the rear sights put the same little hole in the same place it would be if the AR had a carry handle.
The front sights literally use an M16A2 front sight post and put it where it'd be if there was a normal front sight base.
Nugatory!
A case can be made for skipping them altogether.
I can't, quite, bring myself to skip having irons on a "fighting" rifle.
