Every Other Day

Sorry about the free ice cream dispenser being down...

I am wrapped up in this Death Star build for my buddy and it doesn't have a lot of handy off-ramps to stop on.

Basically, each level is two assemblies and doesn't give a good stop point except for completing the level half.

Getting there, though.

He's got Huntington's Disease, in case you wanna find a charity that meets your needs and donate to help find a treatment.

He tapped me to make his kit because his fine-motor skills are already taking a hit.

Mostly In Jest

That bleg below, somewhat in jest.

It's probable that I could come up with $1,000 for the trip on my own.

If this blog was a paying gig, I'd do so.

But since I selected to pay the bills and keep the cars and house in good repair...

Not to mention doing normal "keep Thag sane" activities...

There's no spare fund to let me go and report on things that would probably interest you to read about.

Note that.

READ.

Something you can do at your own pace rather than a video dragging you at their pace, whether fast or slow.

And except for the occasional bleg, there's no ads at the Abode of McThag.

So, while it'd be fun to go, I'm not too serious about it.

If all y'all put up the funding, though, I will GET serious about it.

If not, we'll "struggle" by with our normal content.

Send McThag To GunCon

I do not have the near $1,000 it would take to travel to Montezuma, Iowa and back to attend GunCon at Brownell's.

I do wish to attend and report back to my loyal reader what went on there.

Like PBS, The Abode of McThag, is funded by viewers like you!

Unlike PBS, The Abode of McThag, is not funded by government largess.

I am sure you're clever enough to figure out my email address to contact me to arrange the transfer of funds for this journalistic adventure.

Have You Ever Seen One Of These

The Boy managed to break The Lovely Harvey's adorable little organizer.

It's originally from Big Lots, here's their archive link to the item.

If you know where we can find a replacement, I'd really appreciate your sharing it.

It's just nearly the ideal storage item for what Harvey was using it for and it appears to be a unique solution too.

Thanks in advance!

Fucking Neck Beards!

For some reason two of the Lego sets I'm wanting have been on the ultra-hot buy list.

Target released them in stores today and they're sold out across the country...

Mostly.

I'm looking for:

Armored Assault Tank (AAT) kit number 75283:

501st Legion Clone Troopers kit number 75280:

If you find them in stock at your local Target, I will pay you back.

Thanks!

Another Shake?

Went to the local arms merchant.

I asked after the Glock Gen5 and M&P 2.0 to see if they fit and have the "twitch".

One of the 2.0's he had in stock was equipped with Apex Tactical's forward set, flat-face trigger kit.

Be still my heart!

I hate the way it looks, but I have to admit that it feels right.

The trigger kit is also substantially cheaper than a new gun.

It also scratches that hot-rodder itch we car & gun guys have.

Alas...  I am putting away all of my spare pennies for the impending doom of M1911A1 from CMP so this will have to wait a couple three months.

Unless, of course, someone wants to stab that donation button.  If that happens, then I'll take the time to detail every step of the install with a photo.

Where Have All The Tools Gone

So I go to start pricing tools to begin my checkering adventure...

And nobody has them in stock.

Does anyone out there in blogland know if they're seasonally made things?

Or know of where to get a complete starting kit?

Information Bleg

Is there an A2 style upper receiver for a DPMS 308 AR out there?

I recall there once being such things, but cannot google my way to them.

Bleg

Do you have an old iPod that works, but you don't want/use any more?

The Boy loves his iPod, but it died.

You might note that new ones are both expensive and require the latest OS.

If I had money for a computer running the latest and greatest, I'd have money for a new iPod for him.

Portable music keeps him calm, and he knows how to work an iPod.

We had two complete fails in two days of his used units he's had for years.

A 5th Gen Nano (8gb) and a 5th Gen Classic (30gb Vid).

Thanks in advance if you've got something to help out with.  Leave a message in the comments.

An Odd Bleg

I'm thinking I need some more income.

The recent legal disaster would have been a speed bump if I'd had an income.

There's some rather startling barriers to traditional employment for me.

My stupid legs prevent getting a job where I have stand.

The Boy prevents a job where the hours are conducive to a job where there isn't standing.

I, obviously, lack the financing to start my own business.

I also lack the contacts that would grease the launch of such a business.

However, I've watched several bloggers leverage their blogs into a writing gig, but I've no clue how to get to the "perfeshunal" stage.

I do know with my design drafting experience and business degree I CAN run a business should someone invest in me.

My first idea was to make retro suppressors.  Getting past SOT and ITAR is expensive, but the tools aren't.

Anyone know where there's a work-from-home opportunity for a broke-dick vet like me?

What I need is a GPS tracking device that can be attached to The Boy.

I need one that works regardless of its distance from a phone that's associated with it (it has to be stand alone).

It needs to be ruggedized, waterproof and such.

It needs to be escape proof, in that it cannot be something like a watch that he can simply remove and ditch.

It cannot have a power button that he can actuate.

His flights from positive adult supervision have grown past the manageable level and we need some way we can locate him if he scoots on us.  After the third time last week the police are really pressuring us to get something but are unable to recommend any specific device except a $500 watch thing with a $40 a month monitoring service.

Remember what I said about him just removing it?  Even if we get a locking band, he might just tear the device in half.

Unlike most patients who wander off and use these devices, The Boy, has a plan and seeks to avoid being caught.  There's something he wants to do while he's out and about, but cannot or will not articulate it to us.

Bleggin

I know a couple of my readers have more read blogs than my meager abode.

Iffin y'all could pimp me a bit for Kilted To Kick Cancer, I'd really appreciate it.

JayG is a great guy and all, and he really drags in the donations, but the man isn't even partially Scottish!

Give a Scot a chance to get ahead for a change!

BLEG

Does anyone have or know where to get an extractor and firing pin for a Beretta model 1915/1919?

Numrich ain't got 'em; and the ones they shipped out years ago are the wrong parts because they don't fit once we get almost all of the bag empty putting it back together.

I've got a sick puppy here.

Shi Shu's got an abscessed tooth.  The abscess is the kind that goes up and out through his face instead of down through the gum.

He needs an extraction and we don't have the $350 in hand.  Update: That's on top of the $235 already spent on his annual visit and the diagnosis.

If you stab the donate button it'd really help.

I'd consider it a loan and pay you back within a couple months.  This is a bad timing rather than can't truly afford deal; we'd just completed annual maintenance on the cars and that's eaten the surplus.

Personal time.

My son is pretty severely retarded.

Basically the emotional development of a two year old in a 19 year old body.

This means that we're a single income family because someone has to stay home to tend to him.

Life is a challenge.  I'm rising to the challenge most of the time, but it's difficult.

We're doing OK on most things, but luxuries are a bit scanty.

Not asking for pity, like I said, we're doing OK.

A while ago I reported a challenge.  If someone were to buy me the purple stock set from Cav Arms, I'd put it on Tabitha.

He's found out about the challenge.  He said, "Me do for Daddy!"

Cue sad music and start the tears.

He doesn't have the money.  I'm out of horse trades to get them.

What I am asking the readers at large is for donations to the cause and to let him think he made it happen.  Which, I guess he will have since I'm relaying his wishes.

Email me at mcthag at gmail dot com to get information on how to contribute.
