That's A Weight Off

Had my neuro follow-up today!

I do not have dementia.

Why didn't I mention this sooner?  I must have forgot... ;)

Harvey had noticed I was being irritable and forgetful.

I looked up symptoms for dementia and made an appointment at the VA.

They are not fast.

Got electroded.

Played some kindergarten memory games.

Answered some questions.

Came out clear.

Based on my blood work, I was just not getting enough B12 in my diet and the change to the One-TWO-A-Day gummies improved everything.

This has been stressing the shit out of me, because I didn't notice anything amiss; but Harvey sure did.

  1. Make sure it is the methyl version of B12 and not the cyano version. Many people have problems digesting the cyano version which is far cheaper to produce.

    1. The bottle says cyanocobalamin on the B12 line. I must be digesting it OK because my numbers went from the basement to sufficient in just a couple months of using it. But I'll check on the methyl version.

  2. Glad to hear you're all right! My brother's mother-in-law died recently, and the last years of her life, she had bad dementia. It was pitiful seeing her and remembering the strong vibrant woman I met long ago.

  3. Just note that when one gets worked up for dementia, vitamins B12 levels are one of the first things that are measured. Low B12 levels can cause dementia, albeit temporary if the B12 levels are not too low for too long. Taking a multivitamin ensures that you are getting the proper nutrition.as far as vitamins go. A bottle of a few hundred multivitamins at Costco is about $12. Remember that if you take individual vitamin supplements, you don’t have to be precise with the water soluble vitamins because you piss out any excess. But, with the fat soluble vitamins, particularly D and A, you can poison yourself by taking too much. So stick with the dose on the label for those. People who live in the northern states and those that do not get enough sunlight usually have a vitamin D deficiency because diet alone will not achieve the recommended blood levels. A supplement is usually indicated. And tell the wife to take a vitamin ad supplement and a calcium supplement to ward off osteoporosis.

Getting proper B12 levels should snap you out of your dementia-like state very quickly.
