Something To Consider

How would Spain, France or Germany know we'd overflown their countries with our B-2's?

  1. Low observable (stealth) aircraft when operating in commercial non-combat airspace must be visible to other aircraft and ground control systems. IFF, TCAS II, normal communication radios, things that increase the RCS of low-observable aircraft are a must.
    That being said, they COULD transit those places without being seen but at a high risk of potential collision.
    Unless you can operate above FL500 (50,000’) or higher. Then the sky is limitless. Long time ago, heard over HF radio near New York control space: “Speedbird, Speedbird, you are cleared cruise climb all altitudes FL500 and above”.

    1. Key phrase, "non-combat." Stealth plane on combat mission isn't non-combat.

      But I think that at the flight levels used, we know the schedules and routes of the commercial flights well enough to see and avoid while in emcon.

      Squawking all the normal stuff is a courtesy, and I think everyone knows it.
