I am, once again, watching the US suck hind tit at biathlon.
I can't even say it's because we suck at skiing because the penalties (misses) speak for themselves.
Hey, CMP, weren't you supposed to fix this?
Wait, CMP teaches high-power, which is scientifically designed to suck all the fun out of shooting and biathlon is fun. Not their wheelhouse.

Why the Hell isn't XTC / High Power Rifle an Olympic sport?
For that matter, why don't any Olympic shooting sports use "real" guns?
Ski troops, kids. The US does not have a history of ski troops like the folks from Finland, Norway or Sweden. Sure the 10th Mountain played with it for a time in WW 2 but that was small scale.
ReplyDeleteI'd agree, except we're getting lots of penalties. If it was just us being poor skiers and good shots, we'd see many fewer misses.
DeletePlus France doesn't have a ski troop tradition either, and they are doing very well. Have been for several Olympics, in fact.
The Olympics used to have 300 meter high power rifle event but space requirements and restrictive gun laws led to discontinuing it. Biathlon was originally done with high power and some Swedish and Finnish series still use centerfire. As part of the general wussification of Olympic shooting there are people agitating to drop some smallbore events. What's really embarrassing about US shooting performance is that the US team and NASA sponsored the development of the Eberle rifle stock used in all top level competition
