Publix used to have an ad motto, "Publix, it's YOUR store!"
Well they're sure making me feel at home with allowing open carry.
Kudos to them!
I still haven't seen anyone open carrying. Anywhere.

I know an old guy around here who wears a derringer in a holster on his belt, but other than him, I haven't seen anybody openly carrying.
ReplyDeleteOpen carry has been legal in Texas for a while. I've only seen it from people not wearing a badge a handful of times since then. Complete lack of incidents too. I was in a Home Depot and a guy had a very ornate 1911 in a shoulder holster. The comments by employees after he paid for his purchase and left was "That was a really nice lookng 1911". Frankly, it was almost too pretty to carry like that, holster wear might be an issue. FWIW, I would never say never, but so far I haven't felt the need to open carry.

Oregon allows open carry in most places. I've seen the occasional retention holster in rural areas, and the guy in Winco with two revolvers and a cowboy hat. Nothing happened but he got a few looks. I also saw a guy on a motorcycle in Beaverton one time, which was asking for trouble since Portland, Beaverton and a few other urban areas prohibit open carry
ReplyDeleteWhat I find interesting about Publix is how they started out as "not in my store you don't!" and after a few weeks flipped the switch to, "we're sorry, y'all are welcome no matter how you want to carry." I'm gonna guess someone who shouldn't be making those calls did it and got corrected by the next level up. It was like they could see Dylan Mulvaney figuratively waiting to walk on stage
ReplyDeleteI live in a very rural laid back place where open carry has been allowed for decades but it is still rare - I've seen it half a dozen times in 4 years. Given the cowboys around here, I'd expect to see it more often.
ReplyDeleteironically, one of those times was IN the local courthouse. Sadly a couple weeks ago they put up no weapons signs; I'm assuming someone complained they weren't following state law.
I'm glad that they don't have any kind of security: walk in or out any door you want.

Even with open carry, I'll continue carrying concealed, if only for tactical advantage. There's no sense letting the ferals know who is going to be the one to end their careers as felons.
ReplyDeleteExcept for some people who are screaming for attention, I don't think we're going to see much of a change in how people actually carry.
DeleteJust like everywhere else that legalized open carry.
