Phones

Motorola Edge Plus UM 5G (2022) vs Samsung Galaxy S23+ 5G.

Ever so slightly smaller.

I am warming to the Samsung experience, but I really liked my Edge Plus.  It's so sad to see her reset to factory settings and awaiting shipment to the insurance company.

But she'd become unreliable.  Random restarts and refusing to charge past 80% most of the time.

  1. Motorola's 80% charge thingy is a "battery saver" mode. Supposedly, Li-ion batteries can only charge to 100% a certain (but unknown) number of times, and greatest battery/phone life occurs when the phone is regularly charged in the middle (20-80%) of the charge range. With the higher level battery use in 5G they're probably looked to head off complaints about short phone life due to battery degradation.

    1. Refuses to charge with battery saver modes disabled. I talked to tech support complaining about it and they initially said the same thing. When I mentioned that it was telling me 100% until recently with all of it enabled and the phone had taken a tumble, they had me do some troubleshooting with the settings.

When the phone rebooted twice and they had to call me back... They told me to call Asurion.
