I was once a staunch user of LG phones.
Then LG went away.
So I developed a loving relationship with Motorola.
Gravity intervened and the insurance carrier for my wireless company says it's Samsung or nothin'!
I hear the Galaxy's are good phones. I get to experience it first hand now!
I've been using Samsung for probably about 10 years. I had a couple of Motorolas before that, an Atrix and Atrix-II, then AT&T quit supplying them. I've never had an LG (Lucky Goldstar) phone. The current Samsung I have is the 25 Ultra. It's better than the 23 Ultra Note that I had in that the design is sturdier. The 23 screens didn't have a protective edge around them and even with a case I had cracked screens with them twice. The 25 so far has not had that problem as the way cases fit they have a lot more protection.

I've been a Galaxy user for a decade. My first was a S7 that lasted me up until March this year when I got a S25. It was still functioning just fine too except for lots of apps had stopped supporting it. The S25 seems just as solid so far.

If you are a klutz or prone to dropping the phone, the "A" (for Active) variants are probably for you.
ReplyDeleteI have an A12 and have yet to break the screen. Which I have done to other phones even in protective cases.
They work. That's what matters.
And I still miss my Windows phone. Sigh.
This is my first ever phone to die before its natural life ended. It took a tumble from a bar high-top and landed in some beer, with the half of the table that broke off on top of it.
DeleteIt appeared fine, but it won't accept a charge past 80% now. I submitted a claim because I'm paying for the "no questions" warranty apparently.
Like yourself, I loved LG with user replaceable batteries, however, my hearing aid company did not bother to work with LG to make their app work with it, so by force, went to Samsung Galaxy along with new aids (4 years ago) with a cheap S20 FE bought used/refurbed - whatever that means. In any event, it works fine but due to constant phone updates and idiot app updates, I find I have to re-set (off completely then on again) about 3 times a week. I do a lot of BT streaming to my hearing aids and the phone basically holds up for a full day of use, ending up at 15% charge warning by the time I put it on charger at night. It used to be more, but after 4 years of my use, it is entitled. No complaints about the phone itself, the thing works well enough. Likely I will be shopping for a more modern Galaxy in the near future seeing as it is probably now 5 or 6 years old (bought "used"/refurb, whatever that means etc.). ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy only requirements are that it be unlocked, have 256 GB of room and 2 chip slots, one for the T-mob chip and one for the Micro SD where all photos and downloads reside. Highly recommend you do not store anything on the on-board memory other than the Apps which you transfer or update when shifting over. Everything else to SD.
Things that I miss about previous phones: 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD slot. The Edge+ is my first without an SD card slot and the second without the jack.
DeleteIt's also the first one where a simple USB-C to 3.5mm adapter wouldn't work. Needed a special "digital" adapter to recognize the headphones and then was repeating what I said twice to the person I was talking to. I got forced into Bluetooth headphones.
The new Samsung doesn't have a 3.5 jack or a SD slot. But I didn't get to pick this phone, my choices from the insurance company were black and green in this one model.
Oh yes, I forgot about the 3.5MM jack, miss that too but as you noted, all vendors seem to have abandoned it. The old LG was great with headphones, no more. Makes a sad face.
DeleteI've had decent experience with lesser Galaxy phones. I had to switch from Motorola to Samsung to get Dexcom support. I disable as much Samsung stuff as possible to get as close to plain Android. My current phone is an A14 because Straight Talk was blowing them out for $50. I'd like more battery life and better browser tab handling but otherwise the phone and the Otter Box Commuter case are fine. It also has a 3.5mm jack and an SD slot
ReplyDeleteMy first cell phone was an Galaxy AO3s because it was the cheap Android smartphone that TracFone sole at Walmart. (A friend got it for me after my car accident in Feb 2023.) Cheap but sturdy hardcase off Hamazon, and no real issues other than TracFone kept installing more rubbish automatic. (Finally killed the app that was doing that.)
ReplyDeleteAssorted dropping, sitting and lying on, no screen damage. No audio jack, but a microSD slot, which I'll *never* give up - my big tablet is rocking a 2-tera card because LOL streaming.
Last year, she gave me her old Galaxy S10e that has a minorly cracked/gouged screen from getting crunched in a recliner. Don't use it for phone, but playing music off the SD card over BlueTooth. Battery hog, but elsewise works fine. Cheapo rubber "protector", but I can't find any good armored-type cases for a phone that old. Less dropping so far, but the screen damage hasn't progressed... and it just hit the floor again. :V Card slot *and* audio jack, but I've never used the latter.
