I think I might have figured something out.
There's a lot of talk about how the right wing is inundated with fundamentalist Christians.
I wonder (but do not know), did they get their foothold in the party because the government kept trying to force them to do or fund something contraindicated by their God?
I know I didn't much notice or care what the feds were up to until they dicked with something I gave two shits about.
