For the first time in, probably decades, I remembered that the Indy 500 was on and actually sat down and watched it.
I have no idea who any of the drivers are any more.
Nice to see Mario Andretti is still around, sad the curse still holds.
Watching it reminded me of why I stopped watching NASCAR.
Indy is still may the best car, best team and best driver win.
That hasn't been true of NASCAR for a very long time.
I always liked watching Formula 1/Grand Prix because there's lots more involved in tactics and equipment than oval track racing. And it was 'fun' for levels of fun to watch a very expensive car wipe out into a shop. Hey, I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteThe last time I watched Indy racing was somewhere around 1978. The more controls over equipment the more boring it got to watch.
The number of accidents this year showed even with all the nannies on the cars a lot of it still comes down to the driver's eyes, hands and feet. Several drivers who had a serious chance at winning were taken out through largely no fault of their own. And it shows even for experienced drivers those cars are hard to manage -- things happen fast at 200+ MPH.

I'd rather watch boat racing, any type of boat. Well except blow boats.
