Halloween Nears

The Lovely Harvey and I consider Halloween our Christmas in terms of decorating and having fun.

This year She wanted to put a Grim Reaper in our annual graveyard.

After seeing that a life sized reaper is $300...

Off to YouTube!

I think we're still under $50 at this point:

That's a 3/4" PVC frame and a couple of canvas painter's drop cloths with some skeletal hands stolen from a broken decoration.

She's going to paint the canvas and we're looking for better hands.

I'm making a scythe.

  1. When we lived in a more urban neighborhood, Halloween was always awesome. I dressed as a live action Grim Reaper complete with a real antique scythe once. I bought a king size Martha Stewart black bedsheet to make my shroud and used black mesh to hide my face so I could still see and breathe. For safety the edge of the scythe blade was covered with duck tape, but that just made it look freshly sharpened. I stood in the corner of the porch near the door and at the right moment came at Trick-Or-Treaters with a menacing and scary sound. This always got screams of fear and then laughter from being scared. We had all kinds of other effects and spooky stuff, and our house was a favorite of the kids because we gave out FULL SIZE candy bars.
